Biography
John has been a professional musician since the early ‘90s. As a kid, in addition to rock & roll, he was heavily influenced by the great blues artists like BB King, Howlin’ Wolf, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddie King and more. John played and toured extensively throughout Canada and has appeared on a number of sessions.
He later got into jazz and studied at Loyola University in New Orleans and Toronto’s Humber College. His musical styles span rock, blues, funk, jazz, reggae, R&B and even a little country. John has been a repeat performer in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and has shared the stage with the likes of The Easy Star Allstars, John Hammond Jr, Barney Bentall, The Itals, The Delvon Lamarr Trio and more. He continues to perform and record regularly in the Vancouver area.
John began teaching in the early 2000’s and that is where he truly found his passion. The ability to help someone achieve their musical goals and to get to be a part of that journey is a tremendous privilege. Everyone learns differently, and John has the ability to recognize what each individual student needs in order to be successful, and convey that message clearly.
